This bookmark is from Galicia in north west Spain. It is marked MALDE with two hallmarks for the manufacturer that still exists in La Corua. It is a representation of the cross of Santiago (St. James). The scallop shell in the center of the cross is associated with the pilgrims that visit the St. James's shrine in Santiago de Compostela.
